Glenden State School is located in the Mackay Hinterland District, 165 km north west of Mackay. The township of Glenden is primarily a mining town, with MIM mine ‘Newlands Coal’ being the major employer of the adult population. All teachers are provided with accommodation in the form of a duplex or house.
The school is very modern, being built in 1984. All buildings are low set and connected by many covered walkways. We now have air conditioning in all classroom buildings.
Our school caters for primary and secondary (including prep and senior) aged students. A sound, daily study program is implemented by our enthusiastic team of teachers and support staff, which allows students to develop academically, physically and socially.
Small class sizes and a responsive learning support program, provides maximum learning outcomes for all students.
In 2007 we have 7 primary classes for 165 students and 7 secondary teachers for 65 students. We also have 1 librarian , 1 Learning Support teacher and 2 teachers providing Non Contact Time for staff.
The school has an small number of students with a Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.
According to the Bureau of Statistics, Glenden’s overall population represents a high socio-economic grouping.
