Gladstone State High School is a school with many great traditions that have developed over its long history. Gladstone State High School began as a separate secondary department attached to Gladstone State School (now known as Gladstone Central State School). In 1953, the current Gladstone State High was established.
The student population comes mainly from Gladstone city with approximately 25% of students coming from the rural areas of Calliope, Yarwun, Ambrose and Mount Larcom. Student enrolment is approximately 1100.
Gladstone State High School has a fine reputation academically, culturally and in the sporting arena, with recognition both intra and interstate. Our school has a good retention rate for students continuing their studies past Year 10, and is a leader in the field of Vocational Education, including School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship Programs. An extensive range of Senior subjects is provided by our school to meet the needs of students, including a Special Needs Unit based on our campus.
Gladstone State High School has consistently achieved strong academic success in all year levels and received numerous awards in extra-curricular activities. Our school recognises and caters for the whole student body and includes a Head of Department Student Services, Guidance Officer, Student Welfare, with an on-campus School Chaplain, Youth Worker, School Based Youth Nurse, School Based Police Officer and Community Education Counsellor.
Gladstone State High School has recently experienced a building "boom" with the construction of new state-of-the-art facilities that will support and enhance learning outcomes for our students now and in the future. An extensive air conditioning program has concluded with the entire school being air conditioned.
Gladstone State High School aims to provide a curriculum which is relevant, balanced and flexible. Our curriculum is reviewed regularly to ensure that we maintain a broad and comprehensive range of sunjects that are responsive to local needs and satisfy tertiary aspirations. The curriculum is devised specifically to give multi pathways options for our students. Students choose subjects from a curriculum that provides access to a full range of tertiary courses or direct entry into the workforce. Our goal is to provide a curriculum that challenges our students but also supports them as life-long learners.
