Kinross College is unique in that it is the first public school in Western Australia that has been specifically designed to cater for the needs of Yr 6 - Yr 10 students. The school is located in the West Coast Education District in close proximity to Kinross Primary School. The school meets the specific learning and social needs of young adolescents through innovation and current best practice trends in education: anywhere, anytime learning. The school has a strong emphasis on parents as learning partners.

Kinross College opened in 2002 catering for students in Year 6 and 7. The school progressed to Year 10 in 2005, with a current enrolment of 980 students.

The school is a result of the Local Area Education Planning process in 1999/2000. James Christou and Partners facilitated comprehensive consultative processes in the development and design of Kinross College. Focus groups including parent, teacher and administrator representatives from across the Joondalup District and other Districts, addressed key curriculum issues. This process has been reflected in the final design.
