Hampton Senior High School is situated in Morley. The student population represents a variety of different nationalities and approximately ten percent come from non-English speaking backgrounds. The parents are very supportive of the ethos of the school. Emphasis is placed on the full development of the intellectual, emotional and physical potential of the students. Parents appreciate the opportunity to have input into school policies through the School Council, the P&C and parent information nights. Although most students come from our local area, the Special Dance Program draws students from other areas.
The staff at Hampton Senior High School are a blend of youth and experience. The less experienced staff are mentored by their colleagues. Many teachers choose to stay at Hampton for ten or more years because the students are very friendly and the parents are supportive. As well as a Principal and two Deputy Principals we have Heads of Department in Design and Technology, English, Mathematics, Physical Education, Science and Society & Environment, Program Coordinators in The Arts and Administration and Teachers in Charge of Business/Computing, LOTE and Library, an Information Communications Technology Coordinator, and a VET Career Education Coordinator. The non-teaching staff is under the supervision of the Registrar and is comprised of a gardener, a library office, laboratory assistant's home economics assistants and five school officers.
The student Services team is an important element of the school. The five Year Coordinators are supported by a School Psychologist and a School Nurse. We have two Learning Assistance Coordinators who work with students with learning difficulties, and a Program Coordinator is in charge of the transition program. A Deputy Principal assumes overall responsibility for Student Services.
Hampton Senior High School is 39 years old, and the facilities are gradually being upgraded. A fence has been erected around the perimeter, and this has already seen a reduction in incidents of graffiti and other vandalism. In 2005 a new Information Technology Centre was opened. The Eric Strauss Centre is a shared school/community facility administered through the City of Bayswater, which has a gymnasium, a drama workshop and a dance studio. The school has its own swimming pool, which is used for vacation swimming classes. There is also a large hockey oval, football and soccer fields, tennis courts and basketball courts.
