Elanora State High School was established in 1990 on the southern end of the Gold Coast just three kilometres west of the famous surf beaches. The school draws its students from mixed locations: the urban resort area which is found along the coastal strip, the immediate modern suburban environs of Elanora and Palm Beach and the rural areas of the hinterland including the Tallebudgera and Currumbin Valleys and suburbs south to Coolangatta and Tweed Heads.

Elanora High operates a Vertical Unitized Curriculum with classes of students of mixed year level according to interest and ability rather than grouped by age. The school offers a variety of Authority, Authority Registered, School and Vocational Educational opportunities as discrete ten week units or as a complete Junior or Senior course. Reporting occurs formally to parents every ten weeks. Sport, Band, Orchestra, Choir, Catering, Public Speaking and Travel both interstate and overseas offer opportunities to extend the curriculum in many directions.

The school currently has a student body of one thousand two hundred students(both boys and girls), about eighty teaching staff and more than thirty ancillary staff members. A full middle management structure of eleven Heads of Department as well as a Head of Special Education Services. Progressive devolution of responsibility to schools by the Department of Education over some years now has extended parent and community involvement in a number of committee areas within the school planning and operational structure. In addition volunteers assist in the school operations in Parent Assisted Learning programs, Special Needs areas, Canteen, Library and Front Office.

Our attractive grounds extend over six landscaped hectares with modern, purpose designed buildings erected progressively since our establishment. Our Student Centre is a full size auditorium with a stage, indoor basketball court and weights room. Science, Commerce, Performing Arts, Art, Music, Resource Centre, Home Economics and Manual Arts each have their own purpose designed facilities. Technology is strongly emphasised.
