Pinjarra Senior High School has a history of excellent educational provision. A long list of very successful people have been educated at the school since its opening in 1921.
In a rural setting, conveniently located just inland of the coastal City of Mandurah, the school draws local students and attracts many from the outlying towns and farming areas. Many students travel to and from school by bus from areas such as Yunderup, Dandelup, Serpentine, Coolup, Dwellingup, Waroona and Mandurah. The school is described as offering the benefits of a larger city school whilst retaining a country school 'feel'. It is the only Government school in the southern end of the Fremantle Peel District where students may remain in the one school for their entire five years of secondary schooling.
One of the school's features is the excellent support it receives from the local community. Pinjarra Senior High school is highly regarded in the community and receives outstanding support from local businesses. Many programs and projects are made possible by direct input from local people. For example, our Chaplain's program and our two Vocational Programs are successful because of the generosity of the Pinjarra community.
The school's staffing profile has undergone a significant change during the past few years as a number of the very long serving staff members have retired. The staff does, however, comprise a healthy mix of teachers with many years of experience and those who have more recently entered the profession.
The school's facilities enable the provision of a rich curriculum and include: well-resourced Automotive and Vocational Training Programs, Computing and Business and Home Economics areas, a thriving Arts Department with growth in Art, Media, Music, Drama and Dance, and a community/school recreation centre that includes a Performing Arts Centre and a gymnasium. Whilst many of the school facilities are old, a great deal of care goes into planning for improvement, maintenance and repair. The grounds and gardens of Pinjarra Senior High School are recognised for their contribution to the character and beauty of the town.
