Melville Senior High School is located in the Fremantle Education District 13 kilometres from Perth and five kilometres from Fremantle. The school's convenient location and the ready availability of public transport make Melville Senior High School accessible to students from across the metropolitan area.

Melville Senior High School is a vibrant school where the notion of partnerships and pathways is defining how the school is evolving. Over the course of recent years the school has developed partnerships with Murdoch University and with Challenger TAFE to provide opportunities for our students to experience tertiary options whilst still in a secondary school. These partnerships enrich student learning and assist in making all important decisions about post-school options.

Melville SHS has recently completed stage one of its refurbishment. Five million dollars has provided a new library, aviation centre and an arts centre with a dance studio, drama studio, a film and television studio, a multi-media studio, three visual arts studios, a keyboard laboratory and music studio. In addition a new general learning area block was constructed with 14 classrooms each accessing computer pods so that students can work in small groups and individually on line when required. This coupled with our newly refurbished information technology centre provides students with access to over 300 computers at our school. Our science laboratories are about to be totally refurbished to provide students with the most contemporary learning environment possible in the sciences.

Melville SHS provides two accredited specialist programs - Aviation Studies and Netball. Both programs provide students with the opportunity to complete Tertiary Entrance and both programs interface with tertiary programs. The school also provides two focus programs, Academic Extension (AEP) in Years 8 to 10 and Music with both programs providing students with extension opportunities.

Melville SHS hosts an Education Support Unit which will soon be moving into a newly refurbished centre. In a addition Melville SHS hosts an Intensive English Centre which provides intensive English instruction for newly arrived students to Australia. The school provides extensive support for students who enrol in the mainstream subsequent to their graduation from the IEC, usually at the completion of 18 months instruction.

Melville SHS attracts a large number of overseas fee paying students as a result of the additional language support that is provided by the school.
