Donnybrook is the 'capital' of the beautiful Preston Valley, and is located 215kms South of Perth. The school servicing the Shire of Donnybrook/Balingup is a District High School, catering for students in K - 10.
The primary population is drawn from the town of Donnybrook and the 8 - 10 students from Donnybrook and the satellite communities of Kirup and Balingup. The destination of most of our students beyond Year 10 is to Bunbury some 35kms away and easily accessible by bus.
The school physically is unique in that it operates on two campuses 1.5 kms apart. The Mead Street (Junior) Campus K - 6, is sited in a Jarrah forest setting, while the older site at Bentley Street (Senior) Campus 7 - 10 is sited in a more traditional 'English country garden' setting. Mead Street has the more modern facilities, but Bentley Street is rapidly modernizing with several new facilities including a unique School Community Resource Centre.
The District High School serves this changing and growing community well. There is a strong focus in the school on learning, on achievement and the creation of real opportunities for all our students to have success across our broad curriculum. Some significant measures of our success are seen in the success of our students in academic performance in schools in Bunbury. Our ex students are more than proportionally represented in awards and prizes in both government and private schools on an annual basis.
Our core curriculum focus across primary and into lower secondary, remains on literacy and numeracy with clear emphasis on knowledge and skills. This learning is complemented with progressive engagement in other learning areas in an age appropriate way.
