The Christian Brethren Church established the Doomadgee Aboriginal Community in a remote and isolated region in the northwest corner of Queensland, in 1936.
A formal education program, administered by the church, was offered to the children of Doomadgee.
In 1985, Education Queensland officially appointed qualified teachers to work in the expanding mission school and the school became known as Doomadgee State School.
Doomadgee State School caters for approximately 300 students from preschool to post-compulsory levels. These numbers have increased slightly over the last five years.
