Katherine High School is the only government high school in the Katherine region and serves an area larger than the state of Victoria. Students are drawn from five key feeder primary schools in Katherine - MacFarlane, Clyde Fenton, Katherine South, Casuarina Street and St Joseph's (a Catholic College for primary and junior secondary). Students are also drawn from surrounding community schools and from Katherine School of the Air and these students often choose to board at either Callistemon House or Fordimail College during their years at Katherine High School.
The school serves a diverse socio-economic clientele from a range of backgrounds: Katherine township, public sector and business, rural and pastoral, traditional and urban Indigenous, and RAAF. Approximately 35% of the students are Indigenous and approximately 15% are from RAAF families. The school also has an Intensive Learning Unit and caters for a significant number of Special Needs students.
