Alpha State School is a small Band 7 school in Education Queensland’s Central West District. The school was established in 1886 and is located in the Jericho Shire in the Central West of Queensland. The rural township of Alpha is approximately 167 km west of Emerald and 140 km east of Barcaldine. The school is supported through services provided by District Office, located in Longreach, 250 km west of Alpha.

The community consists of an established residential area largely centered on the cattle industry. There is no single major industry within the Shire which influences local employment opportunities.

QTS for teachers qualified in Aus. and NZ

The Department for Education have now confirmed that as of April 1st 2012, teachers whom have qualified in Australia and New Zealand will now be recognised as qualified teachers and awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England without being required to undertake any further training or assessment.
