Seaford 6-12 School is a very new school and in many ways a rather unique school. Seaford 6-12 has been purpose built for the implementation of the departments Action Plan for Middle Schooling as well as the South Australian Certificate of Education and Vocational Education requirements.

Because it is literally starting from the ground up, it has not had to contend with the legacy of entrenched secondary school traditions, which might stand in the way of the cultural and pedagogical shifts necessary to implement an integrated curriculum and other Middle Schooling practices.

Seaford 6-12 School was occupied in 1996 and formally opened in 1997 as a departmental pilot school for Middle Schooling. The education program has been extended to include Senior Schooling at the Stage 1 level of the South Australian Certificate of Education in 1998 and was further extended in 1999 to cater for Stage 2 students. A Childrens Services Centre is located on the school campus and in 1998 the school became a regional centre for students with severe multiple disabilities. The enrolments were 476 and have grown to 852.
