Geilston Bay High School 30th anniversary web project is sponsored by E-magine as one of their Innovative Online projects. Students across all grades were offered the opportunity to take part during E&E in second term. We needed students:

who were interested in computing and technical matters who liked sending; and receiving emails;
who liked talking face to face with people;
who were creative and imaginative;
who were willing to do research;

Over the 3 cycles we have gathered a team of 20 students spread across grades 7-10. We have 3 teachers contributing various skills.  Most students have met face to face in E&E time which is every Thursday afternoon for approx. one hour; several due to school band commitments in cycle 2 or other demands met online for part of the time. We set up an online communication platform to enable everyone to contribute whether or not they could meet in E&E time, one has even logged in to communicate from home. Because the project uses skills relevant to a number of subject areas, work completed in this project has helped many students in their other subject work.

QTS for teachers qualified in Aus. and NZ

The Department for Education have now confirmed that as of April 1st 2012, teachers whom have qualified in Australia and New Zealand will now be recognised as qualified teachers and awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England without being required to undertake any further training or assessment.

As well as being eligible to work in the UK, overseas trained teachers (OTTs) will need to have a fully recognised teaching qualification and, in some instances, registration from their country of origin. Teachers can apply for UK Qualified Teachers Status (QTS) by completing the following form:

For more information on how to gain QTS as an overseas trained teacher please visit the Department for Education's website by clicking here.
