It is a school of approximately 400 students in spacious and picturesque setting. The grounds and gardens are a central feature of the school, having won awards in the Toowoomba District Carnival of Flowers Competition over a period of more than twenty years.

Since its opening in 1967, Pittsworth High has developed a comprehensive range of educational and recreational facilities which now include a Music Block; Open Air Theatre; senior Industrial Arts complex; multimedia Resource Centre; Agricultural Science facilities; computer facilities for Art, Business Education and Computer Studies; and a Special Needs Support Centre. In addition, Home Economics and Catering facilities were upgraded to industry standard in the 1997-98 financial year.

The school serves the town of Pittsworth and the rural community within the shire, as well as students from the Millmerran district who undertake Senior studies. There is an increasing number of students whose parents work in Toowoomba, but prefer to live in the quieter atmosphere of a small town.
