Welcome to Moranbah State High School. The Moranbah community is very proud of its local secondary school and I am convinced that your course of study at this school will bring great benefits to you personally and professionally in the future. At Moranbah State High School we have developed a reputation for delivering high quality educational services. Our school community believes that your success at Moranbah SHS will be enhanced by a daily commitment to:

* learning;

*†punctuality and attendance;

* cooperation and courtesy.

A commitment to learning, punctuality & attendance, cooperation & courtesy will help students to achieve to their fullest potential.

Our major focus at Moranbah State High School is to maximise learning outcomes for all our students - the success of our school is ultimately judged on the achievement of our students. I strongly† believe that effective learning is impossible without effective literacy - conventional written literacy and in the growing fields of electronic and multi-media literacy's.

Consequently, literacy and thinking skills are key organising principles for all our programs. Literacy development is our core business at Moranbah State High School. We are committed to a consistent approach to literacy development as well as challenging students to think and solve problems. Through our professional development program we aim to skill our teachers to be able to remediate literacy and promote thinking skills in their classrooms.

This reinforces our belief that literacy is not a single stand alone concept but a set of teaching and learning behaviours which enable students to achieve their goals. We place an emphasis on helping students to make meaning of the messages they encounter. Students are taught to read, interpret, analyse and critically evaluate these messages from texts. Our program does not only develop studentsí abilities to make meaning from texts, but to challenge and question all texts. We actively encourage students to interpret texts from a range of viewpoints.
