Mitchell State School is a preschool to Year 10 campus. A preschool operates five days per fortnight. Approximately 65% of these students enrol in Year One at our school. The middle and upper primary and lower secondary (Years 4-9) are underpinned by a middle schooling philosophy while Year 10 students are part of the senior phase of learning. Class numbers determine the structures for each year which range from single year levels to multi-age classes.

Students from feeder schools Dunkeld, Mungallala and St Patrickís access our preschool. Students completing Year 7 in Mungallala and St Patrickís enrol in our secondary school. Occasionally, some of our Year 7 students continue their secondary education elsewhere and travel daily to St Johnís P-12 school in Roma or board away. School of distance education students attend the preschool and intermittently other classes such as manual arts.

Located on the Warrego highway 587 kilometres west of Brisbane and 176 kilometres east of Charleville Mitchell State School is set in the town of Mitchell which marks the gateway to Queensland's Outback

QTS for teachers qualified in Aus. and NZ

The Department for Education have now confirmed that as of April 1st 2012, teachers whom have qualified in Australia and New Zealand will now be recognised as qualified teachers and awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England without being required to undertake any further training or assessment.

As well as being eligible to work in the UK, overseas trained teachers (OTTs) will need to have a fully recognised teaching qualification and, in some instances, registration from their country of origin. Teachers can apply for UK Qualified Teachers Status (QTS) by completing the following form:

For more information on how to gain QTS as an overseas trained teacher please visit the Department for Education's website by clicking here.
