Macquarie strives to promote excellence in learning through care and discipline. It emphasises the use and study of technology and is constantly seeking to improve its technology facilities to support this. However, this is not a narrow focus. Many students achieve excellent results in traditional areas such as mathematics, creative areas such as visual arts, in the social sciences and also in sport.
Providing for the educational and welfare needs of boys is a particular focus of this school. A number of induction and support programs are conducted to enhance this and to aid students' transition to their next stage of education. Students in Years 11 & 12 have a curriculum structure which maximises subject choice and access to one or more vocational courses in addition to traditional school-based academic courses. This also enables students to combine part-time employment and work placements more effectively with their school commitments.
This school has a record of providing excellent welfare and support programs. This has been acknowledged beyond the school. Students in this school have diverse social and cultural backgrounds. They learn and interact together in a very positive, tolerant and productive multicultural environment. There is a good working relationship between students, staff and parents. A close working relationship exists with Macarthur Girls High School, our "sister school".
There are a number of extra-curricular activities involving students from both schools. Many students who attend this school live beyond its local area. There is also a large number of students who live in the local area. There is a strong tradition in some families to have all their sons educated at Macquarie.
