Ambarvale High School is a co-educational comprehensive school which caters for students of all ability levels. Established in 1984 and occupying its current site in 1988, the school provides a caring environment in which students' horizons are broadened through the attainment of the knowledge, skills and values needed to successfully prepare for the future.
In February 2000 the school enrolment was 1035 students including 56 in the support unit catering for intellectually disabled students. Enrolments are expected to stabilise at about 1000 in the next few years. The gender ratio of boys/girls is close to 50/50 and approximately a quarter of our students are from language backgrounds other than English.
The school has a teaching staff of 79.4 divided mainly between ten faculty areas. Specialist positions include those of librarian, careers adviser, counsellor, 2.5 support teachers for learning difficulties, two head teachers administration and a head teacher welfare.
A teacher employed three days a week provides support for students of language backgrounds other than English. The excellence of the school's support unit catering for intellectually disabled students is recognised throughout the Campbelltown district as is the expertise and organisational skills of staff concerned with information technology, with our school being chosen to trial the proxy cache server to enhance student use of the internet.
