Oxley High School is a large, co-educational, comprehensive high school of over 1150 students with a low turnover of staff and a student waiting list for some academic years.

The school's drawing area provides a wide range of student academic ability, family background, student interest and needs. The majority of students intend to complete six years of secondary schooling, finishing with a Higher School Certificate credential. Students have access to a wide curriculum offering, with three elective lines in each of Years 9 and 10, and a Higher School Certificate program selected from 55 courses during 2000.

Positive social interactions between students and staff are important and lead to strong communication across the school. Of those students completing year 12, the majority elect to pursue tertiary studies. The school prides itself on its achievements, both academically and in extra-curricular activities.

School environment is important to the school community and expenditure from both the school budget and the P&C has continued to improve student and staff amenity this year. The covered walkway from the front of the school to the Macquarie Building and the Year 11 Plateau cover were the major initiatives.
